Proper collection and management of plastic waste are crucial to mitigating environmental damage, protecting human health, conserving resources, and supporting sustainable economic development. Implementing effective waste management systems and encouraging recycling and responsible disposal practices are key steps toward addressing the global plastic waste crisis.This project goes beyond climate change mitigation by putting in efforts into collection of Plastic waste, category wise plastic segregation and further more ensuring the appropriate recycling of the Plastic waste ending the plastic life cycle. Through such practices, the waste is diverted from entering the Landfills that harms the ecosystems, human life and the climate. Practices followed by the project in this informal sector has enabled in bringing transparency and accountability in the value chain right from the source of the plastic waste which has created awareness in the masses and sense of responsibility.
Along with an environmental objective the project also can be seen as a social initiative. Through the project, many under privileged have been given employment and have been provided help in improving their living conditions. This project creates awareness towards reduction of harmful plastic waste in the environment, it’s impact and climate change being a major consequence is created among st residents. An example being- today micro plastics can be found in the challenger deep, with no human population in close proximity but due to the natural systems being connected, it is definitely a hazardous situation.
The activity ensures not only the economic empowerment to the lowest strata of society but also helps in the creation of a clean city.
