There is limited natural habitat recovery and reforestation before the project. The project is expected to generate GHG emission removals, improve biodiversity, enhance coastal resilience and communities’ livelihood.Since such regions – the forest patches in the mangrove reserve are surrounded by ponds, create a spatial barrier and limit the natural spread of the mangroves. Furthermore, human interference and water pollution from the farming ponds have the potential to impact the mangrove ecosystem and wetland birds. Hence the approach through this project activity reduces the risk of occupying mudflat wetlands to plant mangroves for expansion purposes while simultaneously creating an effective physical barrier space that can slow down artificial disturbance to the mangroves from the periphery.
Overall, this collaborative effort aims to harness the ecological benefits of mangroves, promote sustainable development practices, and contribute to the conservation and restoration of the vital mangrove ecosystem.
